There are two ways to deliver files; Write to a drive of some kind for shipping or a secure connection via a service such as;
1. Direct upload to Editorial team, such as ChronoSync
2. Cloud Storage intermediate, such as MASV
3. Writing back to hard drive is self explanatory, but let’s explore the other two options…
Direct connections have some advantages, and they may prove useful in your workflow. Direct connection eliminates the second step of downloading files, and the package can be waiting for the editor on a preferred drive. This will require technical knowledge of any routers and firewalls between your computer and the internet. We cannot provide assistance in opening or forwarding ports. If you have the ability to set this up it is the fastest and most direct way to receive your files.
Most editors outside of facilities, or without specific technical knowledge will prefer to use this method since it requires no setup. We use Frame.IO since it is widely known, simple and elegant.
Constellation is full compatible with most SAN, NAS and NEXIS / ISIS systems. This can be achieved by either a network connection in the same building or via a VPN. Please be aware that Constellation requires internet access to authenticate back to our servers.
When a new drive is attached to your unit it will remain silent and not allow any footage to move in either direction until our system engineers have cleared it for use. This may require clearance by the UPM. During this process the drive is registered with the unit and the show. This will only happen once. This ensures that all drives attaching are known and cleared by production.
While we do not reveal details of our architecture, here are some highlights that make Constellation exceptionally secure, especially when compared to traditional dailies services.
